Starting Your Day Right!

Years ago I was going about my “morning ritual” of picking up the house before I left for the day. I have to tell you, I was pleasantly surprised. My kids' rooms were amazingly clean. I mean like, “think you’re dreaming” kind of clean. Sure, we had our morning checklist before everyone left for school, but let’s be honest-they didn’t always hit the mark. However, this particular morning seemed absolutely perfect. Maybe it was because a few nights prior I had a “come to Jesus” meeting with my kids about helping me around the house and how I was tired of doing everything myself. Regardless, their rooms were fabulous and I was elated.

I was so happy I decided to give out a grand prize for overall fabulousness. It’s amazing what a clean house can do for you. Winner was my oldest daughter, Christiana. When the kids came home, I bragged on them all. Little did I know, my two youngest daughters were eyeing the prize on their oldest sister’s bed. They came downstairs excitedly and asked me if I would be handing out prizes the next day. I assured them I would. I could just see the wheels turning in their heads.

About three o’clock the next morning, I woke up to strange noises. I got out of bed and went in the other room. As I walked further, I heard my two little girls talking. I couldn’t believe it. I walked into our computer room and there were my two daughters fully dressed for school, hair fixed, and backpacks by the door. I asked them if they knew it was 3:00 in the morning. My daughter, Elliana, said, “No, mom, its 3:15!” Arriella piped in, “Mom, we’ve made our beds, picked up our rooms, cleaned our bathrooms and brushed our teeth!” They were so proud. One of them asked me, “Mom, do you think we’ll win the prize today?” I told them I thought they would and to go back to bed!

Well, needless to say, they won the prize that day. Sure their rooms were spotless, but in my eyes they won for sheer determination and drive. You see, I loved the fact they woke up with a plan. I admired their dedication to do whatever needed to be done to reach their goal. Even though they were young, they knew the course for their day even before they got out of bed.

I learned a major lesson from my girls that day. I realized to an even greater degree the importance of starting the day out on the right foot. Not just waking up and going about the day, but waking up with a plan and purpose.

It's easy to get lost in the busyness of everyday living. Life gets overwhelming and stressful. But even in the chaos, we need to remember that not only does God have a plan for our lives, He has a plan for EACH DAY of our lives.  His desire is for us to be successful and productive every single day.  And I really believe He wants us to be purposeful about what we want to accomplish daily. I like to look at it like this; God has given me this day to use as I will. What I do with it is important because I’m exchanging a day of my life for it. A day of my life that I will never get back.

The Bible says to look carefully then how you walk!  Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people). In other words, make each day count.  Don’t just go through the motions. Don’t get caught in a rut. Don’t just live life because it’s there. Live with enthusiasm. Live with hope and expectation.

The truth of the matter is this; if you don’t know where you are going, you will never get to the place you were destined to be.

You have to see every day as a new beginning. Maybe yesterday was a little shaky, but today—it’s a brand new day. Don’t dwell on the mistakes of yesterday. It might have been a moment, just don’t make it a monument.'s some simple tips for starting your day right:

Don’t magnify the negative-Put your positive pants on!

These are my positive pants.

These are my positive pants.

Don't wake up grumpy-Just let him sleep-HA!(my dad's joke)

Don’t talk about how bad everything is-Celebrate the good!

Get out of bed with a GOOD attitude-Attitude is EVERYTHING!

Change your attitude and change your day, your week, your month, your year…YOUR LIFE!

The way you begin your day DETERMINES what kind of day you will have!

Determine that YOU are going to run your day and not let your day run you over. Get a plan, have a purpose and attack the day with enthusiasm.

Hey every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day. Find the good. And then go buy yourself some new shoes...and a cupcake. You deserve it!

Have a FABULOUS day!
